What is Biotec Fractional Laser for Melasma, Pigmentation and Sun Damage?

Biotec Fractional Laser Treatment uses a 2940 nm Er:YAG laser to create precise microscopic treatment zones within the skin.

The laser removes controlled fractions of damaged surface tissue while leaving surrounding areas intact to support healing. This encourages skin renewal and collagen remodelling, helping to improve uneven pigmentation, sun damage, fine lines and rough skin texture.

The depth and intensity can be adjusted according to the pigmentation, treatment area, skin type and acceptable recovery period. This makes it suitable for selected clients requiring more intensive rejuvenation than non-ablative laser or LED treatments.

Good for?

Biotec Fractional Laser Treatment may help improve:

  • Selected cases of melasma
  • Uneven or mottled-looking pigmentation
  • Sun damage and photoageing
  • Superficial areas of excess pigmentation
  • Dull, rough or uneven skin texture
  • Fine lines associated with sun damage
  • Overall skin tone and luminosity
  • Pigmentation remaining after other suitable treatments

What happens during treatment?

Your treatment begins with an advanced laser and pigmentation consultation.

On the treatment day, your skin is thoroughly cleansed and a topical anaesthetic is usually applied. Appropriate laser eye protection is provided.

The fractional Er:YAG handpiece is passed systematically across the selected area, creating microscopic treatment zones within the skin. The depth, density and energy are carefully selected according to your skin and treatment goals.

Afterwards, the skin is likely to appear red, swollen and warm. It may feel tight or similar to sunburn. Suitable post-treatment products will be applied, and you will receive detailed instructions regarding cleansing, moisturizing, sun protection and the temporary avoidance of active skincare products.

Additional information

Pain levelTopical anaesthetic is usually used to improve comfort. Heat, prickling, stinging or sharp snapping sensations may still be experienced.
The level of discomfort depends on the area treated, laser intensity and individual sensitivity.
Full recoveryInitial healing usually takes approximately 5–10 days. Deeper treatments may require up to 14 days or longer, and residual redness can remain after the skin’s surface has healed.
The skin may become dry, rough, flaky or crusted before peeling. It is essential to allow this skin to shed naturally and not scratch, rub or pick the area.
Sensitivity periodRedness, warmth, swelling, tightness and tenderness are generally most noticeable during the first few days. Dryness, peeling, flaking or pinpoint crusting may continue for approximately one week or longer.
The newly treated skin will be particularly sensitive to sunlight, excessive heat and active skincare ingredients. Strict sun protection will be required throughout healing and as part of ongoing pigmentation control.
Results drivenThe complexion may begin to appear smoother and more even once the initial healing is complete. Improvements in pigmentation, texture and sun damage should continue to develop over the following weeks and months as skin renewal and collagen remodelling take place.
One treatment may produce a visible improvement, although additional sessions may be recommended.
Results vary and permanent clearance cannot be guaranteed.
Potential risksSkin redness, slight skin swelling, slight skin scabbing/browning. Hyper/hypo pigmentation skin has to be protected from bright sunlight with a strong SPF for 3 days after treatment scarring (extremely rare)
