What is Renova RF Microneedling for Acne Scarring?

Renova RF Microneedling combines microneedling, radiofrequency energy and gentle vacuum technology to target the deeper layers of the skin.

The fine needles create controlled microchannels while radiofrequency energy gently heats the surrounding tissue. This encourages collagen renewal and helps remodel scar tissue, producing smoother, firmer and more even-looking skin.

Good for?

  • Acne and post-acne scarring
  • Indented or uneven-looking scars
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven or rough skin texture
  • Areas of skin laxity
  • Improving overall skin quality

Active or inflamed acne must be assessed carefully and may need to be brought under control before RF microneedling can be performed.

What happens during treatment?

Your appointment begins with a detailed consultation and skin assessment to determine whether Renova RF Microneedling is suitable for your skin and type of acne scarring.

A topical anaesthetic cream is applied before the treatment. The Renova handpiece is then passed across the selected areas, delivering fine needles and controlled radiofrequency energy into the skin at carefully selected depths.

The treatment settings are personalised according to your skin condition, the depth of the scarring and the desired results.

Additional information

Pain levelThe anaesthetic cream helps make the treatment more comfortable. You may feel pressure, warmth or a mild prickling sensation during the procedure.
Full recoveryRedness, warmth, sensitivity and mild swelling are common immediately afterwards. These effects usually settle within a few days, although recovery time varies according to the treatment intensity and your skin’s response.
Sensitivity periodThe skin may remain dry, sensitive or slightly rough for several days. Avoid heat treatments, strenuous exercise, swimming, active skincare products and direct sun exposure until the skin has recovered. Daily high-factor SPF is essential.
Results drivenAs new collagen develops, acne scars may gradually appear softer and less noticeable. Skin texture, firmness and pore appearance can also improve.
Results develop progressively over the following weeks and months. A course of treatments is normally recommended for the best outcome, although results vary and complete removal of acne scarring cannot be guaranteed.
Potential risksTemporary redness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding, tenderness, dryness, bruising or crusting may occur. Less commonly, infection, prolonged redness, pigmentation changes or scarring are possible.
A full consultation, medical history and suitability assessment are required before treatment.
